One’s own life as source

Comics artist Ulli Lust is a master of the autobiographical comic. In 2009, after almost five years of intense work, her autobiographical graphic novel “Today is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life” was published: the most comprehensive comic printed in the German-speaking world to date. On 460 pages that are driven by energetic pencilwork, the young punk Ulli and her friend Edith run away to Italy, where the two adventurous women get themselves into big problems.

In a talk with curator Anette Gehrig, Ulli Lust reveals how she obtains the necessary distance from her own experiences and packs them into a Story.
