The wide-ranging programme at our newly opened Comics Workshop, St. Alban-Vorstadt 15, begins with Hannes Nüsseler (b. 1973). This comics artist from Basel interweaves historical events with personal stories and elements of suspense. With pared-down precise linework and a keen sense of atmosphere, he recounts a dark chapter from our region’s history in ‘Das Seidenband’ (The Silk Ribbon). Set against the backdrop of the Yugoslav Wars, ‘Das Haus am Wald’ (The House by the Forest) sheds light on the inner workings of a young woman after a break-up, whereas the story with the ambiguous title ‘Die Hard’ focuses on a male friendship. The exhibition features original drawings from all three of these graphic novels, alongside recent and other published works by the artist.
