The caricaturist, illustrator, and globetrotter Haëm, alias Hans Meury (1929–2007), worked for international magazines such as “Punch”, “Pardon”, and “Nebelspalter”. He was born in Basel and became a great Jazz fan in his youth. He bequeathed his estate to the Cartoonmuseum Basel. The museum recognises this donation by presenting a showcase exhibition that focuses on Haëm’s comic ink drawings of great Jazz musicians of the 1950ies. With easy and expressive lines, Haëm sketched a new and dynamic music, which promised awakening and renewal, as well as its expert performers.
